Our 5 favourite ways to celebrate Great Outdoors Month
June 13, 2012
It’s that time of year… the sun is starting to shine and we are just itching to get outside and enjoy some nice weather! This June, make the most of “Great Outdoors Month” with our 5 favourite ways to celebrate nature.
1. Picnic potluck with friends and families
It’s no surprise that we love our potlucks at the Daiya office. Of course, they would be even better out in the sunshine! For some quick and easy snacks, try some deliciously dairy-free 'cheese' with crackers or fruit. A nice veggie sandwich with some sliced Daiya wedges would also make a great addition to any picnic basket.
2. Plan an outing for Dad
Don’t forget that Father’s Day is coming up on June 17th! Make it a special day for Dad by spending some quality time outdoors. If action and adventure aren’t really his thing, try firing up the grill and making some ‘cheeseburgers’ with Daiya. Interested in some other recipe ideas for a father’s day feast? 3. Camping
Whether you decide to go off the grid or pitch a tent in your own backyard, camping can be a great escape from the everyday routine. No phone, no email, just the great outdoors, or at the very least, a great excuse to roast veggie dogs and vegan marshmallows!
4. Gardening
Whether you enjoy the beauty of the botanical world or just really love home-grown veggies, gardening can be a really fun, and even therapeutic pastime. From cultivating ornamentals to creating a totally edible garden, the possibilities are endless, as long as you let your imagination grow!
5. Venture out to observe some wildlife
Is bird-watching your thing? Do insects make your skin crawl with glee? No matter what your interest in the world of wildlife, there is plenty to see on the local trails or even in a city park. You may even be surprised at what you can find crawling in your own backyard! Or if you are feeling a bit more ambitious, how about trying to capture some footage of Bigfoot, the Yeti, or some other cryptids?
Now that you’ve heard our favourites, tell us yours! Will you be celebrating Great Outdoors Month?
